The Portland Police Association has repeatedly opposed all police accountability measures both on a local and on a state level.

They endorsed a candidate for DA who thought the entrapment of the Muslim community was okay.

Do not amplify them.

Do not believe them.
Journalists would be wise to ask the PPA and other police entities what reform measures are acceptable to them rather than their condemnation.

Condemnation is easy.

Reform is not.

Trust comes through reform.
Everyone should fundamentally consider their allyship with police unions. Fundamentally, progress depends on intersectionality of organizing. Yet, that progress is not achievable when undermined by groups allying with police unions to destroy social and policy movements.
This movement can deliver enduring and meaningful change, but we have to do it together.
