Last semester I took a subject on African-American literature, and it quickly became one of my favourite subjects. One of the things we were assigned to read was this collection of poems, with works ranging from early folk poetry, to more contemporary works.
I remember reading his particular poem, and my classmates and I wrote actually shocked at how contemporary it felt, even though it was written in 1947. The fact that nothing has changed at all is shocking, and horrifying.
Protesting against oppression is what creates change. Riots and demonstrations were what gave women the right to vote, and made it possible for the LGBT+ community to come out. I am not religious, but for the people who are out protesting against a corrupt and biased -
Government, and a police force that fails to serve and protect the citizens of your country? I'm praying for y'all.
Living in Norway, I couldn't be more distanced from this situation, but people fail to realise how it impacts people all over the world.

The protests in H*ng Kong are escalating again, and in the US... well...
The irony is that r*ght-wing protestors were able to bring guns and other weapons and protest against c*vid19, with no repercussion whatsoever, even when it violated the isolation/social distancing rules.

Solidarity and unity is key. Stand up when you see injustice happening, and if you come from a place of privilege, speak up, and share your platform with the lesser privileged. We're in this together.
