This past month has been infuriating. We’ve watched as two black men, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, were murdered right before our eyes. I don’t know what to say other than I’m ashamed of this country. We need to do better.⁣ (1/8)
When I wrote about the NFL protests in the  @nytimes I got a lot of people telling me they “respect my opinion” but didn’t think racism was really an issue in our country. I got in a lot of arguments. Was sent a lot of counter videos/articles by angry white people. (2/8)
To me, it’s simple, part of honoring the sacrifices of those who have died defending this country means making sure ALL Americans are given the same opportunity to the freedoms they gave their lives for (including LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness). (4/8)
I can’t think of a worse way to carry on my dad’s legacy than complacently watching as those rights continue to be withheld from other Americans, something that happens every day because of the blatant racism in our country and all too often at the hands of law enforcement. (5/8)
America has, and continues to, let communities of color down, and I can’t imagine their anger, hurt, and rage right now. 💔⁣ Ending this thread with two quotes from @DrIbram's brilliant book (one I highly recommend to every white person in America) HOW TO BE AN ANTIRACIST: (6/8)
“What’s the problem with being ‘not racist’? It is a claim that signifies neutrality: ‘I am not a racist, but neither am I aggressively against racism.’ But there is no neutrality in the racism struggle. The opposite of ‘racist’ isn’t ‘not racist.’ It is ‘antiracist.’”⁣ @DrIbram
“One either allows racial inequities to persevere, as a racist, or confronts racial inequities, as an antiracist. There is no in-between safe space of ‘not racist.’ The claim of ‘not racist’ neutrality is a mask for racism.” - @DrIbram (8/8)
