I was looking forward to today on twitter. Today is the final round of a contest about football helmets and the school I went to, and coach basketball at has made it. Unfortunately, there are much more important events happening across America. 1/?
I can& #39;t tweet about a silly contest in good conscience and be silent about the injustices happening. A reporter and his crew were arrested on live tv for covering protests. I don& #39;t understand how anyone can watch that video and not be angry at the Minnesota state police. 2/?
But the problem is bigger than that. George Floyd was murdered on camera and the cop who murdered him walks free. This is obviously a racial issue that as a white male, I am lucky to never have personally experienced. Like Carson Wentz said yesterday, 3/?
I& #39;m not going to pretend I know what it& #39;s like to be black in this country. 4/?
Obviously some police presence was necessary when the looting started. But you know what would have stopped the protests immediately? An arrest warrant issued and justice for George Floyd. 5/?
Even better would have been if Floyd& #39;s murderer had just gotten his knee off of Floyd& #39;s neck so that he could breathe. 6/?
Twitter should be about silly contests, entertainment news, sports highlights, cracking jokes, or whatever other distraction you need from the world (pandemic or not). But I can& #39;t be silent on the real issues here when they are this important. 7/?
I& #39;m sad. I& #39;m angry. I don& #39;t know what to do to help. Change doesn& #39;t happen overnight. But it also doesn& #39;t begin with silence. 8/9
This isn& #39;t the end of my thoughts. But it& #39;s the end of what I& #39;ll say for now so that this rant stays semi-coherent. Be well to each other.
