I confirmed Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin is also a licensed real estate agent. I obtained his application, which states he's a Florida resident, and not a Minnesota resident. Tax records show he and his wife own homes in Oakdale, Minnesota and Windermere, Florida.
Over the last few days, Derek Chauvin's real estate agent profiles were scrubbed from the internet, and a local real estate broker's Facebook post welcoming him to the agency has been deleted. His wife is also a real estate agent, and her profiles have also been scrubbed.
Mike Bernier of the Realty Group told me: “He actually was only with us a very, very short period of time,” adding that he has over 500 agents and hadn't met Chauvin. “His wife was with us for awhile. She left over a year and a half ago.”
Asked if his company's former agent Derek Chauvin is the Minneapolis Police officer of the same name, Bernier said "it's the same guy." Chauvin's real estate license is now inactive.
According to archives I made of Derek Chauvin's wife's Instagram and Facebook accounts—now no longer accessible—they run a "VRBO/Airbnb" in the Orlando area. A couple hours before the incident, Chauvin's wife posted a video with an alligator in it.
Here's a PDF of Chauvin's real estate license application data with many of the personal details removed, and my public records request asking for it: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6933114/Real-Estate-License-Application-Data-Derek-Chauvin.pdf
