I lived in Minneapolis for 8 years, and it's probably my favorite city in the US.

So sad right now.

It's both shocking and not surprising at the same time. (short thread)
The nice white Scandinavian Lutheran Democrats don't like racism, and vote for Keith Ellison and Ilhan Omar, but are more complacent than not. (If I'm being honest, this includes me 12 years ago.)
Meanwhile, the nice white Scandinavian Evangelical Republicans that voted for Trump don't think of themselves as racist, but don't understand or don't care about the deep injustice that still exists today.
It's hard to be hopeful right now, but I think it's possible that Minneapolis changes for the better by confronting ongoing racism. It's a city that nominally wants to be progressive and equitable. Maybe this will be a wake-up call.
