/9 Since NREGA 1.0 is in the air, here is a peep at how NREGA used to be in those days, and could still be today (apologies for the whiff of nostalgia).
To start with, NREGA was a people’s movement…
/9 … often led by women, who make up a majority of NREGA workers.
/9 Job cards were valued documents – later they lost relevance as all processes were digitized.
/9 Worksites employed large numbers – today a few tend to be employed at a time, often on private land.
/9 Payment agencies still had human faces.
/9 Social audits caught people’s imagination.
/9 Many community assets were built…
/9 … and the workers were often proud of them.
