Protestors have started to gather outside the Windermere home of former cop Derek Chauvin (second home). They’re calling for justice for #GeorgeFloyd
The @OrangeCoSheriff has had multiple deputies drive by in the last 2 hours, but just publicly said the former Minneapolis officer is not at this home. Neighbors also say he isn’t there. https://twitter.com/orangecosheriff/status/1266372979039957001?s=21 https://twitter.com/orangecosheriff/status/1266372979039957001
Right now only about 10 people gathered here (about as many media) but last night neighbors said there were many more, about 50.

People keep coming.
One man started banging on the front door, and the neighbor across the way came out to say no one is home. She asked earlier about keeping it peaceful.
Protestors have talked about keeping it peaceful here multiple times today. #GeorgeFloyd
Jake Uttich, 23, came from Oviedo to stand in front of the officer’s home. He wears a mask and has a Black Lives Matter sign.
“You can only retweet things so many times.”
He wanted to do something. #GeorgeFloyd
People are standing pretty spread out, many have masks and a few have signs.
Most wanted to get out and do something, instead of posting or reading about #GeorgeFloyd

Here’s Makaleya Lawrence (right) with her sister. She said knowing the Minneapolis cop had a home in Florida feels wrong, even if he’s not physically here.
“You can stand up and do something,” she said. They drove from Orlando to make sure #GeorgeFloyd is heard.

I’m told more people are planning to come out around 3 pm. People keep coming tho, about 40 now
Some energy is building here. New signs and people are driving by honking, met by cheers. #GeorgeFloyd
Candace Hopkins made the drive to Windermere from downtown Orlando to release some of her pent up energy about #GeorgeFloyd. She’s glad she did.

“I just felt, me being a part of something, being able to confront that type of evil... I just feel a lot better.”

Despite Chauvin in custody and facing criminal charges in MN, protesters remain out in Windermere for #GeorgeFloyd. More signs, new people keep coming (but people also leaving, it’s hot).
Protestors chant: NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE. They say 3 more officers need to be arrested.

Protest hasn’t gotten violent here but a few have painted, chalked the home the former officer owns. #GeorgeFloyd
Andrew Darling (white button down) who’s running for @OrangeCoSheriff just showed up to the protest. He said he’s here to show the community his support and that he’s ready to implement reforms Orange needs.
. @OrangeCoSheriff vehicles continued to drive by the gathering. Protesters yell, “no justice, no peace, no racist police.”
Protestors march down the block, which @OrangeCoSheriff has blocked off at one end. They went up to a deputy in his car, yelling, “no justice, no peace, no racist police” and “say his name, #GeorgeFloyd

Other deputies stood by.
Presence of @OrangeCoSheriff deputies has grown, they’re on both sides of the block and down a side-yard cut through. Protestors march toward them at all directions.
Peak of protesting (around 330pm) had at least 200 people. I’d say about that many are still out in front of Derek Chauvin’s Florida home in Orlando area.

I am tapping out for the night, my colleague @katievrice will be out to keep an eye on what’s happening.
#GeorgeFloyd
Orlando activist Miles Mulrain led most of the chants, marching today for #GeorgeFloyd in Windermere.

His message tho, was clear, this is not just about 1 protest or 1 day.
We’re not “going to change nothing in the history books unless we follow through with it,” he said.
