My boyfriend, a fluent irish speaking citizen of Ireland, who’s lived in the Gaeltacht almost all his life & is as Irish as they come, was recently told to “go back to his own country”, unprovoked, because he’s black.
Somehow, some people think racism isn’t prevalent in Ireland?
This was said to him by a kid no older than 7. This isn’t purely a generational issue. This isn’t a once off either. No matter how friendly and welcoming you like to think Ireland is, it is not exempt from having issues w racism.
Pointing at America with disgust and pity due to the ongoing racial tensions whilst continuing to practice ignorance towards the racism prevalent in our own country is ridiculous. We are not exempt from what is happening.

If you feel the same as Ruairi here, do me the favour of blocking me so I don’t have to bother.
Just because POC aren’t being regularly murdered by police doesn’t mean racism doesn’t exist here. This sentiment is ignorant and comes from a place of complete uneducated privilege.
