Before and after the transformation of Queensbridge Road in Hackney. Many car park spaces removed to create safe space for families to cycle
Cycle tracks are wide enough for comfortable side by side riding. Perhaps even three abreast. Or for carrying a ladder
If anyone claims that space was taken from pedestrians here (can't think who) then they're lying
I know which one I prefer!
I like the crossing by the nursery and that it also includes the cycle track. The parallel crossing at Dunloe street is also excellent. That used to be a terrible "cut out the traffic lights" rat run from Hackney Road
Only a few small criticisms; ideally the road could have been made a little bit narrower. That would have slowed down traffic and allowed a small buffer of say 0.5m between the cycle track and roadway
Also the cycle track undulates to roadway for access to the bin store, it is really noticeable as you cycle over it. Ideally should have a ramped kerb up to keep the cycle track level
Also the very first thing I saw when I got there was this parent and their cycling on the footway on the Whiston Road "Quietway" before using the cycle track on Queensbridge road. I don't blame them - it was packed with motor traffic, like it always is!
I've written about the Whiston Road quietway before, it really is appalling. To think this will appear on the TfL cycle map but Queensbridge won't! Amazing they're going to repeat the same mistake with Lea Bridge to Dalston & on Frampton Park Road http://hackneycyclist.blogspot.com/2017/04/the-improved-central-london-cycle-grid.html
Anyway, I look forward to using it more, now let's get on and extend it all the way to Dalston Lane!
