Hey White Teachers,
Do you "keep your classroom neutral" by "keeping politics out of the classroom?"
Do you realize that by doing that you are making a political decision that reinforces the status quo?

Have you been paying attention to world events?
#OntEd
A Person of Colour was murdered by the police this week in Minneapolis.
How are you talking to students about that?
A White Woman in Central Park phoned the police on a Person of Colour when he asked her to leash her dog.
Are you reflecting on that?
"But those are police problems..."

Did you see the cover of the @Torontosun2 making a joke out of the death of a Person of Colour?
"But systemic racism doesn't exist in Canada..."

How hard have you looked? https://twitter.com/AndreaHorwath/status/1266097291146002432?s=20
Listen, White Teachers...if you are making the choice to not talk about race, or class, or events that make YOU uncomfortable with your colleagues or students, you are reinforcing a system that allows injustice to flourish.
If you make the choice to say nothing when a colleague treats racialized students differently that they would treat a white student...you are part of the problem.

We've all seen it happen! We know about THAT teacher down the hall...

How will you confront that today?
We can't think that issues of systemic racism and discrimination will go away because we want it to or because we have good intentions.
Students in your care are hurting TODAY.
Your colleagues are hurting TODAY.

What active action are you going to take to address that?
