A riot is the language of the unheard. #BlackLivesMatter

I am an activist in all my other spaces. I will not be silent, even in my sanctuary space.

White silence & willful ignorance is a privilege of a culture of white supremacy. Check your privilege.

(CW violence) If you're white & want direction, start by educating yourself.

Don't ask a POC to do emotional labor for you while the world fills w images of faces like theirs being brutalized & silenced.

Start w/ DiAngelo's White Fragility or Coates' Between the World & Me.

Listen to & believe the stories of the powerless in our culture. Their whole story, not just the parts that feel good. Then amplify their voices. Don't speak for marginalized people, don't take up space they've carved out for themselves. Pass the damn microphone & step back.

(CW mental health) I'm exhausted from a depressive episode & long hours for my nonprofit job. I may not have the energy to respond to any of this convo in a meaningful way. I have said something, at least. In every space of my life. I will not be complicit. #BlackLivesMatter 4/4
One more thing. If you're queer, don't ignore our legacy of riots like #Stonewall. Trans women of color throwing bricks at cops—that was the catalyst that allowed all other queer American activists to take up space, to be heard. Don't have to like it, just know it's complex. 5/5
