I've seen plenty of tweets recently from conservatives who fear we are heading to a US-style culture war, warning that we should not get involved.
Some argue that if the Left push culture warring, we should not respond in kind because it will make politics less pleasant and more polarising.

This line has often been used to oppose privatisation of the BBC, fearing the rise of a UK Fox/MSNBC split.
I disagree with this. Some Right-wingers might not be interested in the culture war, but it is interested in you.
But I can understand why they have this mentality. They've endured the Blairite march through the institutions and have spent much of their lives on the backfoot, steadily being diminished.

Peter Hitchens even wrote a book about Britain being 'abolished' by these forces.
But if the Left regularly push the limits of our politics through polarising means to achieve their own ends, we can't respond by hopelessly clinging on to the institutions and norms of old that leave us weakened.

This is a low-energy doomer mentality.
Look at this Labour appointment.

Doreen Lawrence just last year said that the firefighters reacting to the Grenfell tragedy would've worked harder if the block was full of white people. But she still gets this gig. I love expertise! https://twitter.com/Keir_Starmer/status/1266078041240895489
But how do the Right react to this appointment?

Many will privately find it bad; almost all will fail to say or do anything about it.
You won't see us promoting a media-savvy and brave mother of a rape victim (and there are many) to lead a national, public inquiry into grooming gangs even though we desperately need one and it would be hugely popular.
The choice for the Right is simple: play the new game and win, or desperately try to retain the civility of the politics of old, which all our opponents routinely ignore in pursuit of victory.

I know where I stand. We've got the minds, we just need the minerals.
