My issue with americentrism in this kind of situations is mostly all the guilt tripping and the expectation of some ppl that everyone around the world is suppsoed to drop whatever theyre doing to focus entirely on what is currently happening in the US.
And they never do the same for what is happening in other countries though.

I remember the toxic shit going on on tumblr during the Ferguson riots bc of how people were creating this echo chamber of guilt tripping and shaming
and "if i see any of you post even a single post that is NOT about the riots you're a piece of shit racist, if you post 99 posts abt the riots and 1 posts thats not about the riots then u DON'T CARE and WE SEE IT".
I remember i did nothing but post and reblog about the riots for days and days and days and then one day i saw one other post i liked that was... Idk fanart or something so i decided to risk it (...risk it. reblogging a normal post felt risky. ffs...) and reblogged it.
immediately a bunch of people unfollowed me for daring to reblog something unrelated after days of posting nothing but ferguson-related posts. I'M NOT EVEN AMERICAN.
Why was i expected to stop EVERYTHING and focus ENTIRELY on events in the US???
That shit taught me that I shouldn't let the guilt tripping get to me. I have to remind myself that I don't HAVE post about things going on in the US as much as I'd post about things going on in any other countries bc the US isn't special or more important than anyone else.
I wanna see the people who make guilt trippy posts also keep the same energy for shit that happens outside the US. People are dying/being murdered all over the world, people are rioting and protesting all over the world.
All these protests are important.
If all you get out of what i said is "but this is too important, how dare you?" you're just proving my point.

This is just me saying "what is happening in the US right now is very important. just make sure you don't fall into americentrism without realizing"
since some perfect examples of this kind of toxic behavior are already QRTing this and talking as if i'm not black myself, i'm muting this thread. bye.
