my views on racism and what racism is, a thread 🧵:
racism is a result of being uneducated about other cultures and because of this, feeling threatened/scared of what you don’t know. you see black people treated worse so you join in, to feel superior or as though you have power/authority when in reality, you’re just close minded.
furthermore, this leads me to strongly believe that black people can not be racist. to be racist you have to have the upper hand or power or be greater in numbers, in which case black people are none of these things in any western countries.
as a white person, you have privileges in this life that you will probably have youre whole lifetime. change is slow. due to these privileges, you will never be able to empathise with black struggles and the everyday battles that come with being a black person.
in a sense, you can sympathise with our pain but you will never feel it.
as well as this, some white people feel as though they are better than black people. this takes me back to my point of racism coming from lack of education.
as a white person you believe you’re superior because of the way society treats you versus the way society treats us, so you act on your beliefs, sometimes subconsciously.
while doing this, you fail to see that black people are not a threat. uneducated racist white people forget that it was people of colour that built up their country that they love so very much (slaves in the US & the wind rush generation in the UK).
so think about that before you tell us to go back to where we came from.
onto this all lives matter protest. as a white person, both consciously and subconsciously you are used to having the attention/power so when black people come together, you get jealous and even scared as we have a voice now after being oppressed for so many decades.
because of this, you try and make yourself the centre of attention again with this “all lives matter” stuff....when will you realise that all lives will only matter when black lives matter?
furthermore as a white person you shouldn’t be stereotyping us as black people. that’s racist too. stop speaking on issues within our culture that you’ve never experienced and never will have to because you’re not black.
you will never know how hard it is to have to always try 3 times harder just because you’re darker than your peers.
stop stealing things from our culture too. enough is enough. stop killing our innocent people! thank you for coming to my ted talk #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #BlackLivesMatter
