This post IS political. You’ve been warned. For those who are solely interested in my characters and stories, go to the part that says CHARACTERS:
I grew up in a household that always made me stand for justice. I was taught to always stand up to the bully, to always protect others. As current events unfold, these ideals feel more crucial than ever before. I don’t stand for the police or one institution, I stand for justice.
Even in that year, here are some things I’ve learned in criminology: (open this thread)
-The USA matches the most brutal of third world countries in both the death penalty and police brutality
CHARACTERS: So I have several fictional characters that qualify as ‘police officers’. Many work in the law/criminal field but do NOT qualify as police. What am I going to do about these characters while ACAB is big news?

-I am not retiring any of them. In respect for those who have died, including George Floyd, I will not be drawing or writing any of their stories for quite a while (at least a month)
I plan on being a lawyer. American lawyers need 7 years of rigorous education to know and practice the law. American police are expected to know and enforce the law in 8 weeks at an academy.
Even after a full year of learning criminology and studying law at an introductory level, I feel like there is no way to qualify for such a job in 8 weeks.
In my semi-educated opinion, both the police and prison systems need to be abolished and rebuilt with the purpose of real justice in mind. There are many variables in this simple statement and I’d be happy to discuss more in comments or DMs.
Please feel free to discuss/interact with this post. Share it if you want. I am a new student to the field of criminology, but I will stay as true to fact as I possibly can with the help of google and my personal knowledge.
