george stinney jr.

a thread.
in March 1944 two young white girls were found dead in alcolu, south carolina. police arrested 14 year old george stinney as a suspect. the police ‘stated’ that he had confessed to the murder while in custody. the trial only lasted 2 hours and the sentence only 10 minutes. +
he carried a bible while he was in court, claiming innocence. all of the jurors were white. his parents weren’t allowed to send him gifts while he was in holding. george stinney didn’t see his parents for 81 days. no lawyer represented him and he was trapped in his cell, alone. +
he was excecuted in june 16, 1944, with 5,380 volts to the head. he was scared, vulnerable, and proven innocent 70 years later by a group of lawyers, that said that the beam used to kill the two girls was too heavy for stinney to carry. +
he was alone. he was frightened. he was the youngest person sent to death for a crime he didn’t commit. this is what the police do. this is what ignorance does. this was over 75 years ago, but it is still present today which makes me sick to my fucking core. +
end of thread.

how dare you say that racism isn’t in our society when this is still happening to this fucking day. how fucking dare you.
