A thread for white people
Compiling tweets, comments & reflections from Black & Brown people on how we can best respond to police violence and murder
Sometimes your best intentions might also be aggressions. Here's a (non exhaustive list) of things that are and to do

Sometimes your best intentions might also be aggressions. Here's a (non exhaustive list) of things that are and to do
Firstly you're probably here because you're angry. Good. You should be. Be angry. Ask your friends why they're not angry.
Don't think the rage or sadness you feel about police brutality and the murder of black people is the same rage and sadness felt by black communities. Your rage is valid, it is powerful, you should use it and speak it, but it is not comparable and it is definitely not the same
Share the names, faces and stories of people who have been murdered at the hands of racists, especially if those racists are the police
Share unnecessary footage of violence against black and brown bodies, especially violence that has resulted in their death. There are way to tell those stories and take action without causing harm to other people https://newrepublic.com/article/153103/videos-police-brutality-traumatize-african-americans-undermine-search-justice
Share images of the protests happening right now BUT DON'T SHARE FACES of protesters. They could also become targets, resulting in more violence and more death.
Share stories of the protests happening now. But first check your sources and the language. Don't share media that is using this moment to perpetuate racist stereotypes and depictions of violence in black communities
If you can, donate money to the Minnesota Freedom Fund to bail out those protesting the racist police murder of George Floyd. https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/donate
Donate to memorial funds organised by families of victims. https://www.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd
Assume that being "not racist" is good enough. Read resources and books, attend trainings and become anti racist. Ask black and brown people to point you to those resources or expect them be your teachers. It's not the job of the oppressed to teach you about oppression
Google exists. If you need somewhere to begin, this list from the Justice for Breonna campaign is a good place to start. https://docs.google.com/document/u/1/d/1BRlF2_zhNe86SGgHa6-VlBO-QgirITwCTugSfKie5Fs/mobilebasic?fbclid=IwAR19Efw-7jjloJuO86kuljl1u46YKxlgyWNf0xGvefMgE8QufgeziwlDBpM

If you're in the UK like me don't kid yourself into thinking this doesn’t happen on your doorstep. Check out the @UFFCampaign to hear those stories and support the families of lives lost at the hands of the police here. https://uffcampaign.org/
Recognise that even within racism, some bodies are more at risk than others. Women and trans people, queer people, working class people, migrants and asylum seekers are all at greater risk of racist violence and death. Support groups that centre support for these communities
Gah! Managed to split the thread somehow. Continued here: https://twitter.com/AnnaVickerstaff/status/1266328745872424961
