Many productions are delayed. No one wants to shoot a bastardised corona version of their show. That's going to impact on huge numbers of crew who won't be in regular employment until 2021. @RishiSunak extend the furlough for freelancers, or destroy our most profitable industry.
Many writers can work, but production is the most lucrative and stable form of payment we get. Development money in this country, unless you're a big name, is largely pittance. And when developments are reduced, so is money. This is bankrupting a generation of creatives.
Freelancers prop up our economy and they've been allowed to collapse unaided. There's inherent snootiness in the attitude towards them. 'Frivolous jobs in frivolous industries'. But while your car factories closed, we produced Star Wars. The creative sector contributes billions.
The only comparable industry to the creative sector, in terms of the scope of skillsets it employs is probably the military! Engineers, painters, builders, drivers, musicians, writers, directors, actors, cooks, assistant, hairdressers, clothes makers- these aren't just 'elites'.
The creative sector absorbed workers from myriad other collapsing industries that have been failing for generations, that are still propped up by the government. And the one time the profitable creative sector needs help for its workers, it is abandoned by this government.
