REMINDER THAT UBER AND LYFT LEAVE A PAPER TRAIL

and for gods sake yall, twitter DMs are not fucking secure. texts are not secure.

you can build tech to intercept some of this stuff for less than the cost of a lunch off the dollar menu. https://twitter.com/AngelAerin777/status/1266100779628150784
This goes for all of yall but protesters especially:

TURN OFF YOUR FUCKING GPS DATA

ESPECIALLY WHILE TWEETING

yall i can fucking track your ass with one damn tweet with GPS data. i can track your ass with GPS data on a photo.

STOP SHARING GPS DATA, IT GETS PEOPLE KILLED.
yall needa learn some damn cybersecurity

protesting aint just in the streets

you gotta watch your shit from the data side or you're just as exposed
Listen yall.

Lets talk bout this.

Because its my bag.
1) Cell phone calls are easy to jack. Simple devices that can be made for cheap, that the police use, commonly referred to as stingrays, are common place.

You can damn sure bet the police are hearing *every* single word that isnt secure at a protest.
I ain't gonna tell you how to make any of this shit but yall gotta know how easy it is.

Stingrays are fucking easy to make. The police use them regularly.

And cell phone cloning? It takes 30 seconds of being in range to clone a sim card. It can be done EN MASSE.
that brings us to

2) Encrypt your calls. Encrypt your phone. Encrypt your data. Encrypt your texts. And for the love of god, stop using GPS.
Services like signal, that allow you to communicate via encrypted data, are both less likely to be tracked to you, and less likely to endanger you and anyone else interacting.

There's others like whatapp, but I haven't trusted that shit since facebook bought it.
Services like firechat even allow you to communicate with people without wireless data, meaning you can turn that shit off and be even *more* secure.
And real talk, anytime you're out in the field, expect that you might not have service, and any service that may be available may equally be compromised.

Expect that shit to be compromised.
It is *very* easy for cell signals to be jacked, and to intercept anything coming in our out.

Encrypted chat that works without mobile networks help combat that.

But even so, you still gotta be on the lookout.
That brings us to the next point.

3) Unless its *absolutely* fucking necessary, turn off bluetooth. There's a lot of vulnerabilities in it that allow for systems to be compromised.
Seriously, like, I know for some people you literally need bluetooth. I get that.

But if you don't? Turn that shit off.

Not only is it wasting battery, but you're letting people into your phone.
4) This one is important and I wish it fucking wasn't.

Use some damn common sense when you use your tech.

The weakest link in every security chain is *always* people.

Using common passwords, PINs, facial unlocking, that shit is *bad*
Bullet points about this:

a) Strong passwords when possible [I say when possible cuz too many damn services dont even ALLOW for the best possible passwords]

b) Seriously, fingerprint and face open your phone are *very* hackable. Not even finesse. I just gotta get you touch it.
c) Legally speaking [not that much of that matters at this point given the state of everything] cops can't legally open your phone if it has a password. Again, legality may be irrelevant at this point.
d) Yall just stop using facebook. I'm just gonna make that a point in itself because, god, delete that shit and get the fuck off. I don't care about your best friend's cousin's niece from 10 years ago's kickball tournament.

Get the fuck off facebook. Burn that shit.
Aight I'm just gonna shut this down here.

1) If you have questions, hit me. Either here or on my sex worker tech support account @SWTechHelp

2) Remember, throwing a laptop in the microwave on high for 10 minutes is a good way to burn it

3) Just be fucking safe. I love you.
Actually, one more thing.

This one isn't cybersecurity so much as just...important reminder.

Keep aware even at night. Dictators often make moves when they think nobody will notice.

Expect it. Trump's planning deadly shit.

Attaching this to my recent cybersecurity thread, info about metadata! https://twitter.com/geistfafnir/status/1267016396438790145

I want to make an important note about this thread! Cybersecurity is an *evergrowing* field specifically because algorithms and data are changing and evolving ALL the time.

This thread is by *no* means a complete list. This is much closer to merely scratching the surface ❀
Also, if you have thoughts, opinions, or want to share more about apps, algorithms, exploits, and flaws, that I haven't even touched on, please let me know and I'll gladly attach them to this thread ♄
IN CASE YALL MISSED IT, DISCORD QUIETLY UPDATED THEIR TOS TO FIGHT ORGANIZING. DO NOT USE IT FOR THAT, AND HONESTLY, GETTING OFF IT RIGHT NOW IS A REAL GOOD IDEA. https://twitter.com/NJ_Yama/status/1267146028324716545
Gonna attach this to my cybersecurity thread because all the fuckin white techs out here is fuckin silent

[I could go into WHY the white techs is silent, but I'm too tired right now. TLDR You know why.] https://twitter.com/TatianaTMac/status/1267570344333893636
Also if you ain't already followed @TatianaTMac you should do that right now.
Hey yall this is super slick! Not related to cybersecurity, but a way to donate even if you don't have money!

Hey, this isn't *cybersecurity* per-se, but it is ops shit, about how folks are using algorithms to fight BLM. Be aware, don't fucking help them by contributing.

Spread the word and stop this shit. https://twitter.com/ProfMCBrown/status/1267782385115922434
Yall, its time to invest in learning cybersecurity.

That shit is *well* past needed.

The cops are fucking listening. Like I been tellin yall.

Please, share this thread. Its not complete, but it is growing, and will keep growing. https://twitter.com/BuzzFeedNews/status/1267952145409564672
I keep asking yall, but I'll ask again, if you have any info about any shit that I haven't covered, PLEASE pass it along and I'll attach it to this thread ♄
To all yall that keep asking me about Zoom!

https://twitter.com/NicoAGrant/status/1268020841054269440

TLDR Fuck Zoom. Zoom is narcs.
I've been meaning to write about this but @acvalens beat me to it, looks like!

If you're looking for safe browsing options, you can't do much better than @torproject https://twitter.com/acvalens/status/1268328597120483328
*sigh* I'm really gonna have to fuckin attach this to my cybersecurity thread aint I
