A THREAD DEFENDING @AcaciaBrinley. I know what you’re thinking, but read it. #Acaciaisoverparty 1/9
First of all, I’m going to be talking abt the racial slurs, controversy about her bigotry in the past. Don’t come at me about Rosie’s nails or her dog, that’s not what I’m not about in this thread n I’m saying that rn 2/9
I know that there is ALOT of work to be done, as a society and by individuals, on systemic and internalized racism. In regards to Acacia, tho, you guys are NEVER happy with her efforts 3/9
Her apology video was similar to every white youtuber’s “I’m sorry I said the N word” and I get how annoying that is. However, she apologized! She owned up to what she said, and everyone on Twitter says “that’s barely an apology! lol why give this half ass apology?” 4/9
But if she DIDN’T make a video, Twitter would come at her even worse. I understand the flaws in her apology and the missing pieces, but in regards to racial discrimination, she is really trying. 5/9
Everyone says “apologies are through actions, not words.” Right? Where and when has she been racist in the last 4 years? Everyone says “she was 17! she should’ve known better.” yeah, she should’ve. But now she’s trying to be better. What else do y’all want? 6/9
It seems that most people who spend their time critiquing the life of a woman they don’t know, like to talk shit about her parenting, her hygiene, her pets, husband, Instagram, you name it. But all race related drama is from YEARS ago. 7/9
I know it shouldn’t have happened. I am educated and I understand that. But she has been held accountable by twitter for years, and she has admitted to it on social media & now on YouTube as well. Nobody can go back in time and change it. 8/9
In conclusion, Acacia has made questionable choices, but Twitter is full of trolls who have nothing better to do than try to drag her for her mistakes, demand an apology, and then decide her apology isn’t good enough. You’ll never be satisfied. What does that say about you? 9/9
