Muslims use Diodorus Siculus, to prove Mecca is an ancient city, Siculus lived pre Islam between 60 BCE and 30 BCE, they Cite his comments in his works Bibliotheca Historica: as evidence.
Let’s look at what Diodorus Siculus said.

Next after these plains as one skirts the coast comes a gulf of extraordinary nature. It runs, namely, to a point deep into the land, extends in length a distance of some five hundred stades.
He describes a gulf of extraordinary nature some 500 stadia - 500 stadia is approximately 57 miles .. the only gulf that fits that description is the strait of Hormuz at 52 nautical miles which is around 59 miles.

Strait of Hormuz, a natural strategic choke point throughout history.

Arabians were Pagans at that time, not Muslims and we know there were many temples in Arabia at that period, even another Kabba in Yemen ‘Dhul Khalasa’ which according to Islamic sources Muhammad had destroyed.
Here’s a 3rd Century political map of Arabia.

No Mecca.
