Let's not get into the discussion of whether this movie is good or not by cinematic standards and by writing. The film indeed has a lot of scope but somehow missed becoming the biggie that sates everyone. (1/n)
Indian cinema, fortunately or unfortunately is a political tool through which several have been addressing keen issues and tapping the anger. Some directors have been accused also of commercializing the anger. (2/n)
I have reservations against the likes of Shankar and Murugadoss for misrepresenting certain communities for glorifying their larger than life heroes. Ponmagal Vandhal is, to me, far away from glorifying the actors. That, is a right step in the right direction. (3/n)
There have been very little films that addressed the abuse of children with such concern and clarity. Though it lacks the intriguing factors and mystery for fitting itself in both courtroom drama and thriller genres, it (cliche I know) has its heart at the right place. (4/n)
I thank both Suriya and Jyothika for consistently making films that are purposefully preachy. We've consumed many such movies as families and I think there's nothing wrong in being preachy provided the state of our country and the failure of every other reliable system. (5/n)
If this brings atleast a little change in the hearts of the watchers or gives the courage victims of abuse direly need, then who are we to question it?
Consider this a genre, consume it if you like or let it be. (6/n)
Cinema does influence us and our agreement or denial changes nothing.
