what you can do if you dont know how to react to the current issue that is taking over twitter - a thread
first is u pick a side and act on it. choosing silence is choosing the oppressor.
you might not be sure what to say but know which side youre on and how you feel. and thats a good start.
you can use the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter bc it helps raise awareness. you can sign petitions you see on the tl. you dont have to come up with some powerful tweet about the situation bc all forms of support counts.
if you get anxiety or is sensitive to some of the content on the tl like i am. no pressure. you can take a break from twt. if you've been reading threads and watching videos youre already aware that something is happening. if it gets too much you ur allowed to take a break.
im making this thread bc comparing myself to other accs i felt that i wasnt doing enough. all ive done is read threads and cry then disappear. so dont push yourself too much if you're on the same boat.
if you think trending the tag wont do much youre wrong. i learned a lot from going through the tag. theres stories of real devastating events, videos of protests and different forms of violence. it can be a lot and can be scary but do check it out.
absorbing all the information can be overwhelming. awareness is good but action follows after. i think that how you choose to react to this matters a lot and there are many ways of doing that other than tweeting about it.
with this platform you can definitely speak up. be careful with your words and its okay to be scared. outside of twitter you can battle racism with your words and actions. this isnt the only opportunity you have to say or act on issue.
if youve made it to the end of the thread thanks. now go do what u have to do. and go tell people about whats going on. stay safe and take care.
