One of the big issues with GATT-based contact tracing apps (i.e. all of them except Apple/Google) is that info about the phone becomes available. Especially on Android this wasn't previously the case.

Think carefully if COVIDSafe asks you to change your device name. https://twitter.com/jim_mussared/status/1265988066365198337
Obviously don't put your name in there.

But any value that's different to what someone else has with the same device model will make your phone uniquely identifiable.

So I think this new UI change in COVIDSafe will have the effect of leaving more users with unique values.
Even the suggested "Android phone" value makes it different to another user who does nothing. Also terrible for usability (i.e. what the phone shows up in a car stereo, etc).

Perhaps the only sensible thing to do is to set it to the exact device model (i.e. the system default).
To summarise... (it's hard to make a good recommendation here)

Before COVIDSafe:
- Android: invisible
- iPhone: gives away phone model but not name
With COVIDSafe before the latest update:
- Android: phone model (via COVIDSafe payload), phone name (via GATT, defaults to model unless user has changed it)
- iPhone: both available via GATT.
With COVIDSafe with latest update:
- Android: phone name only via GATT (now recommended to change to "Android phone").
- iPhone: both available via GATT
Open questions:
- Can you fingerprint the model in other ways? (probably)
- Is encouraging millions of users to change their device name to the same thing terrible for usability? (definitely)
- Should we move to Apple/Google? (yes, six+ weeks ago)
