I know that I& #39;m pissing in the wind here because most of you agree with Matlis and Robinson and Boulton that the government is DOING A BAD THING by not firing Cummings; but I& #39;ve never seen so many journalistic standards trashed in such a short period of time as they go after him.
Editorialising instead of hosting discussion; using the obvious reluctance of scientific advisors to get involved in political discussion as proof of government intervention; insinuating with no evidence the government is manipulating statistics...
These are dodgy practices being indulged in by the most senior members of the profession, who I& #39;d always - despite myself sometimes - looked up to. I do think there& #39;s a quieter section of the population who are switching off, literally and metaphorically, from what they say.
And this will have a damaging effect on journalism and our political culture in general. Please just stick to the task as you know it - we need professionals we can trust - and instead of screaming about politicians failings on that score, be that trust. Also - calm down a bit.
