I would like to ask President Lungu and his administration to look carefully at what is happening in Minneapolis, US, where protesters have set a police station on fire over the police killing of yet another black man. Look at that and then apply it to Zambia. Let me explain>>
When footballer, Colin Kaepernick, took a knee during the singing of the nat anthem, to call att to structural racism, he was savaged by power holders. His peaceful protest was stiffled coz it was uncomfortable. That race issue is what has violent crowds on the US streets today
Back to Zambia! The PF has made it its mission to stifle the ability of citizens to be peacefully heard on the issues they maybe unhappy with. @iampilato was arrested for simply training kids to understand citizenship. Prime TV is closed for being a platform for citizen voice.
I've always thought that one of the reasons Zambia has been mostly peaceful is that those in power have largely allowed ordinary citizens to to be heard, peacefully. Even KK allowed the satirically critical Kapelwa Musonda column in the Times
& Kadansa to rant on Cairo Rd, daily
FTJ, Levy & RB took incredible criticism. They did not close media houses or citizen gatherings. That space for citizen voice is one the PF has systematically smothered. Problem is that even suppressed illness in a body comes out as a boil. Unheard unhappiness festers & explodes.
To President Lungu I say, space for ordinary folk to vent is good, not only for the nation, but also for you. Stop muzzling citizens. Let the people be heard. Don't fear peaceful, lawful criticism. It's like gas out of a body - stinky but shouldn't be kept in for overall health.
Mr President, I'll end this thread by asking you most sincerely to #OpenPrimeTV & allow citizens to gather. Right now, citizens are getting their information from rumour & whacky online publications who have no trouble stating that the earth is flat. Not good- believe me on this!
