In the intervening night of 29-30th May, 2009 two girls from #Shopian, #Kashmir namely Aasiya & Nelofer were raped & murdered by the men in uniform. The two girls had gone to visit their orchard & never returned back. Aasiya was just 17 & Nelofer 22.

The then Minister Ali Mohd Sagar said justice will given to the two girls within 48 hours. @OmarAbdullah however said that initial reports suggest the two girls had drowned. #Shopian shut for a period of 47 days with peaceful protests going on everyday.

Government Constituted a one man Commission under retired Justice Jan to probe the crime. The Commission in its report said the two girls were raped & murdered by the men in uniform but it failed to point out which particular agency did it. An SIT was also probing it.

Finally the probe was handed over to the CBI. The bodies of the two girls were exhumed. CBI did a political job & concluded the two girls had drowned in the river. Notably the river had only ankle deep water at that time. It also ruled out rape of the two girls.

The CBI booked 5 lawyers & 2 Doctors from Shopian for defaming the Security forces. The trial is still going on.

All the institutions of India including press & judiciary systematically denied justice to the two young girls & it became a case of institutional denial of justice.
