If we can’t can’t operate on the racist system we will direct it at any person present. Especially authority figures. Especially folks who want to treat us inferior or patronize us.
When students of color go off on you, refuse to follow your directives, we are asserting our humanity, brief moments of power, that remind us we are human, free

The kids are watching. They are taking notes. They are looking to the adults and leaders to communicate show where kids of color fit in the racial hierarchy.
When we return to classrooms, they may not say it, but they will want to know where you stand. They wanna know how much you care. Whether you are willing to put something on the line.
This is why we cannot be neutral in the classroom. Society is not neutral. History is not neutral. Schools are not neutral. Oppressed students know this.
Your neutrality is compliance and complicity.
Decolonize your curriculum
Build relationships with students, restore after harm
Give feedback not grades
Take a stand.
