The review process is a hard learning process for graduate students. Recently, we got a rejection that was not very useful (alright in itself) but had the lines "The value of the findings is unclear. It is not vene clear whether these findings are reliable." 1/n
This was the graduate student's very first manuscript and she was in tears, not about the rejection but about the harsh comment. 2/n
We searched for any useful comments and made appropriate changes and sent the manuscript to another journal. Here, the feedback was terrific and made our paper so much better! The journal also appreciated the work and will put it as a highlight on their website. 3/n
Major learning for the student: pick out the useful feedback, ignore the humiliating comments and move on! Reviews are there to help us improve our work and should not be taken personally. Learning for the reviewer: ??? End of thread.
