❣ COMPILATION OF HELPFUL INFO ON CURRENT EVENTS ❣

i'm going to try to make a thread full of the things that seem helpful. dm me or reply with any suggestions/anything i've missed, but i figured a round-up post with proper tw's and sourced info might be useful.

[1/?]
FIRST AND FOREMOST: be careful about the links you're clicking. as far as i'm aware, everything in this thread should be safe; HOWEVER, it is important in these times to be AWARE and ATTENTIVE. https://twitter.com/angecult/status/1265916394845192197?s=19
in that same vein! definitely consider getting yourself proper online protection if you haven't. here's a pretty informative tweet on that. https://twitter.com/y2canine/status/1266211226809298945
here's a good thread full of links to petitions and fundraisers, particularly for George Floyd.

if you need a zip code and live outside of the US, try 90015, 10001, or 75001. https://twitter.com/sunfIowerkissy/status/1265739296838946816
side note: IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, i would recommend signing these under your legal name. for most sites, i don't think it matters; however, on the off-chance that it DOES, it's better to be safe than sorry.

most petition sites DO provide an option to hide your name publicly, tho!

remember, DO NOT include the phrase "B*M" or anything similar in the notes of any donations or payments, as they may not go through. https://twitter.com/lilithisfat/status/1266022734397689856

here are some supplies that you can donate to the Minnesota protests! https://twitter.com/wtvrjxzmine/status/1265880010675666947
ALRIGHT. i have a LOT of info on protesting, and if you intend on joining in, it is VERY IMPORTANT to take these things seriously.

FIRST OFF: the biggest misconception i keep seeing is using milk or (god forbid) BAKING SODA if you get tear gas in your eyes. DON'T DO THAT.
SAME WITH LEMON JUICE.

also, DO NOT WEAR CONTACTS. they are SUPER absorbant and you DO NOT want those chemicals absorbed into your actual eyes.

only use WATER. your eyes are very sensitive! https://twitter.com/EmilyGorcenski/status/1266156346438832130
here's a good infographic on safety during protests! https://twitter.com/sunfIowerkissy/status/1265824448671817729
a good thread on how to protect yourself properly and what to watch out for! https://twitter.com/strwbrrymew/status/1265968300120436741
another in-depth thread with A LOT of good info. if you choose to only read one of these threads (although i really wouldn't recommend doing that), PLEASE read this one.

https://twitter.com/R0KAFRU1T/status/1266059081170554880
THIS TWEET IN SPECIFIC IS VERY IMPORTANT. don't let yourself be tracked!

https://twitter.com/R0KAFRU1T/status/1266084172877017089
a more brief tweet, but still important to remember: TURN YOUR DATA OFF.

if you are serious about wanting to help with the protests, you need to be serious about your preparations. protect yourself out there. https://twitter.com/AngelAerin777/status/1266098511172431872
further gear examples, with pictures! https://twitter.com/Bobbyrogers_/status/1265705750967410688
regardless of whether you partake in the protests or not,

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU POST. you don't want to be the reason someone else who DID gets into huge trouble. even if you can't participate, you can help to protect those who did. https://twitter.com/BaconTribe/status/1265459501991292933
TW // MURDER

seriously. protect yourself. protect others. no one should be joking around about this. lives are quite literally at stake here. https://twitter.com/LeslieD0pe/status/1265904972614365185
TW // WHITE SUPREMACY, MURDER

once again: https://twitter.com/idalireys/status/1265995886871621633
"riot" and "looting" are negative buzzwords meant to paint those protesting and grieving over an innocent man's death as being the ones at fault, drawing attention away from the murderers in question. don't let it distract you. https://twitter.com/aspen_eyes/status/1266050194862415873
do not let your support be conditional, or dependent on how neat and tidy these things are handled. https://twitter.com/AngelaNWalker/status/1265971740053843970
rarely does "neat and tidy" ever work, as things are now. https://twitter.com/simonbelmonts/status/1265915993919873024
again on "looting".

it's also worth noting that the T*rget that was "looted" was one that frequently supported this particular corrupt police force. there was absolutely a reason behind why it was chosen. https://twitter.com/dirtbagboyfren/status/1265956121581240320
ABOUT BLACKOUT DAY:

i keep seeing suggestions of a blackout day where only black people should tweet. HOWEVER, i've also seen plenty of black folks raising concerns about this, as it puts the pressure on them (once again) to talk about these heinous and traumatic events.
instead, consider using these days to raise black voices and provide them support; but don't simply leave them to do all of the gnarly, unpleasant discussion. we need to be ALLIES, not expect them to do all of the work. (but don't speak over them either!) https://twitter.com/girluvrcatra/status/1266042936023810049
+ another.

https://twitter.com/belysannelol/status/1266092746227560453

this is more nitpicky and only tangently related i guess but PLEASE stop using the phrases "crackhead" and "simp", especially about [insert w/e fandom thing here]. there's more meaning behind them than a lot of people seem to realize.
"crackhead" specifically has racist origins. who'd have thought!

tw // dr/ugs, addi/ction, racism https://twitter.com/starstarked/status/1265954014954434563
and "simp" is part of aave that has misogynistic implications -- it's not just some Haha Cool Funny Meme Word.

(i've also noticed there's a lot of "stan language" that boils down to just being appropriated aave, but that's not my discussion to have.) https://twitter.com/minletz/status/1265792018577608704
IMPORTANT PROTEST INFORMATION: DO NOT ATTEND THIS ONE in SAN DIEGO, CA; IT IS A SET-UP.

TW // WH!TE SUPREM/ACY https://twitter.com/larsonsfineline/status/1266154513297289219
WATCH OUT FOR OTHER SET-UPS AS WELL. the pol!ce don't play fair. watch your backs. https://twitter.com/k3lese/status/1265871849310900226
more ways to help! https://twitter.com/tpwkhollands/status/1265757092473954306
and here's what George Floyd was like, as accounted by the people who actually knew him. i feel like this is important to include. he was a beloved human being; do NOT let the media reduce him to just a name. https://twitter.com/ReconcileUs/status/1265439065073221633
another nitpick, but seriously: A-C-A-B. no exceptions. don't turn this into jokes, memes, w/e, this is NOT about fandom and it never should be. this is about human lives. now is also not the time to be pointing out whatever c0p you're related to either. https://twitter.com/kingashseokie/status/1266083950658797568
HOW TO PROPERLY TRIGGER WARN:

https://twitter.com/mikrokosmoon/status/1265801200840171520

the other way i do it is by starting it off with

TW // tr/igger wo/rd

to prevent it from being searchable, yet still have it be adequately tagged as a warning to scroll past it.
i'd advise also doing this for retweets, with a follow-up tw tweet.

there's a lot of important information circulating, but we also need to remember that there are many black people who are hurt and afraid by these things and hyper-aware of what's going on, as they're the most
affected by this situation in general. we need to make sure that they are able to avoid some of this for their mental health and well-being as needed, if nothing else. https://twitter.com/nottydesignss/status/1265852958685700096
relatedly: do not let your activism be performative or simply kept to just tweeting. if you want to make a change, you need to go further -- any little bit helps. sign petitions. donate. educate yourselves. refuse to remain silent until justice is served. https://twitter.com/toastasaurus/status/1266008516327858176
if you aren't sure what else you can do and aren't able to participate in the protests, another huge thing you can do is help to support and uplift black people! promote their small businesses, their commissions, gofundmes, etc.

if nothing else, help to increase their platforms.
here are some gofundmes!

here's another small business with some great ideas!

support black artists as well!

(PLEASE RT FROM THE SOURCE, NOT FROM ME!)
consider donating to or promoting Sybrina Fulton (Trayvon Martin's mother)'s office campaign! i'm honestly a bit shocked this is the first i've heard about it. https://twitter.com/butlenciak/status/1266156944571748354
that's all i have for now, but i'll add onto this with anything else i find or have suggested to me.

please consider rting these all from their sources, rather than from me, as all i have done is compile the info; however, this thread as a whole is fine to share as you see fit.
UPDATE: AVOID THE PROTEST IN DALLAS, TX AS WELL -- IT IS ANOTHER SETUP. https://twitter.com/pradaksj/status/1266112324307386369
