Should I get a professional editor for my thesis? A thread. #AcademicTwitter #Past3amSquad
1. Most institutions actually do require you to utilize services of a professional editor prior to submitting your Masters or PhD dissertation. Some institutions will have a database of supervisors who specialize in that particular area.
2. You have to get someone who’s knowledgeable in your field & someone who understand that particular style of writing. If you’re not sure, ask your supervisor to make recommendations.
3. Even if you think your writing is impeccable & faultless đŸ€, you still need an editor to proof read your work. After writing and reading your thesis so many times, you’ll end up missing clear and obvious mistakes like spelling errors 😳 So an editor also helps in this regard.
4. You must always allow sufficient time for this part of your research, it’s as important as the rest of your thesis. Once you receive your thesis back from your editor, you need to go through your thesis and ensure that it still makes sense, meaning the context wasn’t changed.
Lastly, once you’ve satisfied yourself that you’re happy, and have complied with all the submission requirements, then just click SUBMIT. A complete and perfect thesis is a submitted thesis 😎
