TW: Police Brutality

Today marks the third day of protest in Minneapolis, Minneasota after the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police Officier Derek Chauvin.

The pattern of police violence in black and indigenous continues is far too familiar in the United States.
Today, black and indigenous americans are more than 3 times as likely to be murdered by the police. Let there be no mistake: this is not accidental.

To understand the institutionalized, violent white supremacy of the American police state, we must go back to its beginnings.
Modern police departments were not established to keep communities safe, rather they emerged directly from the slave patrols of the south and native american policing forces established by settlers. Police never sought to protect the marginalized, only to exert violent control.
The modern insitution of policing cannot be separated from it’s roots in the institution of slavery. The route to justice is not in reform, it is in abolition.

YCAT stands with the Minneapolis protestors as they fight for the liberation in their city.
