*I* have been meditating, sound bathing, snuggling with pillows, and letting my notifications pile up 🥴

But my subconscious is doing its' thing and processing.

A Muslim friend of mine says the Quran makes a provision for one to defend themself.
A lot of folks who grapple with racism, I think to be largely Christian. And there's nothing hammered into Christians about self-defense.

There's also the impact of culture on religion. So think about all that historical fighting in the name of God in Europe.
Aside from the original violent colonization of America, modern day Americans brand of Christianity IS the capitalistic, patriarchal, white supremacist, imperialist system that you see.
Which basically means that white people think they're all that, which is obviously dangerous because they hold infinite positions of power at every level that impacts our lives every moment of every day.
That system is the ego that makes white people feel entitled and drives them to express their perceived superiority.

So the Christianity fed to enslaved Black people hits differently and is woven into our culture, even by non-practicing Christians.
It's very passive:
turn the other cheek,
forgive a trillion times,
vengeance belongs to God,
it's in God's hands,
pray about it etc etc are the only scriptures that come to mind regarding how Christians are to govern themselves in the face of persecution.
So in America, clearly there are two different Christianities. (Well obviously more than that because cultures, even around the world, have a huge impact on how religion is expressed, because people are people interpreting God, and won't let God just do their thing.)
But the Christianity Black people practice is disempowering, because it does not equip them to dismantle the pervasive capitalistic, patriarchal, white supremacist, imperialist system of oppression. White American Christians are more empowered, basically.
It very much explains the begging, the pleading, the asking to be seen as human. The "going about it the right way," through protests and legislation.
Not to mention the many times throughout history when Black people have resisted, the sanctioned murders of Black Panthers, Black Wall Street victims, the bombing of the MOVE organisation in Philadelphia, & even Black Lives Matter organizers dying mysteriously, is disheartening.
The message being, organize and America will murder you, and no one cares.

So yeah.

No one is coming to save you. Save yourself. And empower others to do the same.
Black men also benefit from this system, which is why Black women had to create #SayHerName.

When a Black man is killed, there is a lot more noise made about it than when a Black woman is murdered.
