Did y’all know my mom (who is black) still won’t go to West Columbia/Cayce without my dad (who is white).

As some of you know I’m looking for a new place to live. I had always had this hestitation to go to/live in West Columbia/Cayce. I asked my mom what that was about.

She told me that when she was a kid, W. Cola/ Cayce was super redneck. Apparently a couple times she went with my Grandaddy to W.Cola/Cayce and people would tell them they needed to leave before nightfall because the KKK was super active in that area.

Now, my mom is not that old. And if you think all those people involved in those activities have passed, you may be wrong. Most likely those fuckers are still alive and probably taught their children and maybe their grandchildren to hate others as much as they did.

I’m not sure what the point to this thread is other than a reminder that racism alive and well, and the more people who believe in love and equality the better!

Side note: my mom was so frustrated by the 2016 election that she helped find 2 groups, one to unite Democrats of the irmo area, and the other the Columbia chapter of the National Org. of Women. Also, she is now a Delegate at Large for the 2nd District of SC. Now that’s badass.
