In retrospect after having gone to many more shows, this was an epic first concert experience. Highlights below 👇🏽 https://twitter.com/SuprAnnoydMario/status/1266150986697052160
First off, I believe this was the first tour with Billy K. I wasn't even a drummer yet but that was huge. Also Mickey rapped Fire on the Mtn which was a big wtf moment to me. I remember I had a great seat, could see all their faces.
I'd gone to 2 Phish shows that summer with some friends but had to go alone to this one. Was 19 but didn't have my own car so I took a bus. Met this dude on the bus who was selling opium and we just chatted on the ride to Cleveland.
The 2 of us met these folks chillin at a bar near the bus station who were going to the show and they agreed to drive us to the venue.
When we arrived they said they would drive us back to the bus station if we met them back at the car after the show. Sounded perfect.
Homeboy with the opium popped up like 20 minutes later saying his buddy needed to bail & could they drive him out. They refused. We just got there!
Despite my getting mushroom blasted I found them afterward & they very kindly took my green ass to the bus station.
The day before the show 3 dudes came into the restaurant where I worked who were passing thru on their way to further fest. I think I noticed one of their Tshirts & began to talk. They were vendors with permits inside the venue & said to find them at the show so I did.
Found em alright. Bought a shirt & they threw in another for free, both lost now. The one I bought was A Bud's Life (after A Bug's Life, the movie). I also got a big finger swipe from the mushroom honey bowl which sent me to the moon for a few hrs.
I tried writing down each song and was probably successful though I remember wandering around a ton so who knows. The important thing is I made it ✌🏼
By "first concert" above I mean first Dead show, though I think by that time I'd been to only a half dozen concerts maybe. Didn't hit shows during high school. Parents were worried I'd be on drugs. Wonder why
