A thread on why the @ADL today is proving itself to be a shande--a shame--to its own origins and to the values it claims to uphold.
The @ADL was created in the wake of the lynching of Leo Frank, a Jewish man who was not only a victim of antisemitic violence but of antisemitic state power.

In Minneapolis, #GeorgeFloyd's death at the hands of racist police continues to be defended by anti-Black state power.
The only response from the @ADL--a group purportedly dedicated to "fighting hate"--about the racist state-sanctioned murder of #GeorgeFloyd seems to be this tweet from @JGreenblattADL, which congratulates the Minneapolis Police Department for bringing in the FBI.
This week, instead of showing its support for the protesters in Minneapolis fighting for justice for #GeorgeFloyd, the @ADL is pushing out its newest report on "anti-Israel" activity on US college campuses--which it considers a threat to Jewish students' safety.
Despite the rise of antisemitic and white supremacist incidents across campuses, the @ADL focuses its report on @NationalSJP, @jvplive, and @USCPR_, who work to support the Palestinian movement for justice and equality, which is gaining ground across the progressive landscape.
And, if you look through the @ADL's responses and non-responses to police and state violence against Black and brown people in this country, you'll notice there's no mention of #BlackLivesMatter . This is not an accident. https://www.adl.org/news/media-watch/adl-on-black-lives-matter
The @ADL does not consider their fight against antisemitism to be aligned with the #BlackLivesMatter movement or any other movement which understands the role state actors, like the police, play in upholding racist violence.
Instead of fighting state-sanctioned violence, the @ADL condones and facilitates it--namely through sponsoring exchange programs between US police, which have long histories of racism, and Israeli security forces, which enforce a brutal occupation over Palestinian communities.
Despite being born from righteous outrage against antisemitic state-sanctioned violence, the @ADL--through its unflinching support of Israel, consistent collaboration with police, and unwillingness to see structural racism-- consistently reveals itself to side with the state.
It's long overdue for progressives, Jewish and non-Jewish, to stop working with the @ADL. This is not a matter of a difference of strategy or outlook. The @ADL actively undermines our movements to challenge state power and achieve real justice and equity for our communities.
If you want to support Jewish organizations that are working on a national level to fight racism and state violence and understand the important connections that exist between white supremacy, anti-Black racism, and antisemitism, support the work of @jewishaction and @jvplive.
