Partners, confidants, comrades in arms, Bellamy & Clarke had all the makings of being a story as epically complicated & emotionally powerful as Starbuck & Apollo.

As much as I had wished for a different ending for Starpollo, BSG had the courage to admit that they had feelings
for one another even if it was messy, painful & a “happy ending” would prove elusive in the world in which they lived.

Who would think now ten years after BSG aired, I would actually yearn for the same kind of acknowledgement of how important two characters were to the
story and each other. To wish that #The100 would grab onto its history with two hands and tell the harder, complicated truths many of us see so plainly. This quote from the above excellent EW tribute to Starpollo really hits home all that could’ve been:
“Starbuck & Apollo are heroes. Both get amazing storylines. Both save the day multiple times. So maybe the fact that they don’t end up happily ever after is okay because what is intriguing, and devastating about them as a couple is that these two titans never really get to have
a typical relationship. They’re too busy saving humanity. Battlestar Galactica forced its viewers to think about how people would need to adapt to the end of the world — politically, ideologically, spiritually — and maybe in this version of society, couples don’t get the luxury
of living happily ever after. All they get is stolen moments on the beach and the profound knowledge that both have trusted each other with their lives. Maybe that’s enough.”

In comparison, maybe that was enough after all. It’s better than pretending it never was at all. #The100
