Reading through debates on whether incel violence connects to an ideology or not (and therefor should or shouldn’t be classified as terrorism) has been informative. I looked through Elliot Rodger’s manifesto again & he discusses forming an ideology. 1/6
• “I formed an ideology in my head of how the world should work”
• “I expanded on the political & philosophical ideals I concocted when I was 17...I became even more radical...than before.”
• “I have created the ultimate & perfect ideology of how a fair world should work” 2/6
This is some of what he envisioned:
- The use of artificial insemination to rid society of sex & relationships
- Purify the world by getting rid of sex
- Qurantine and starve women to death
- A new gov led by a divine ruler (such as himself)
- A “fanatically loyal” army 3/6
Regardless of how absurd his utopic vision was, it’s interesting that ER refers to the process of developing an “ideology” complete with a political & social re-ordering based off of his desires for revenge. A small # of those in incel communities do indeed share this vision. 4/6
ER is just one case but given how celebrated ER is on certain forums & Telegram channels/groups, I wanted to look through his manifesto again to find the sections where he referenced his own “ideology” and outlined his beliefs. 5/6
On a final/somewhat random note, I think internalized racism is frequently overlooked when researching incel community posts.

As @JessMarinDavis said, this isn’t going to be solved on twitter but it’s definitely a continuing conversation! 6/6
