This is music to my ears. ‘ Chronic neurological diseases are the leading cause of disability globally. Yet, our health-care systems are not designed to meet the needs of many patients with chronic neurological conditions.’ 1/4 https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/laneur/PIIS1474-4422(20)30064-8.pdf">https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/jour...
‘Care is fragmented with poor interdisciplinary collaboration & lack timely access to services & therapies..care is typically reactive, & complex problems are managed inadequately because of a scarcity of disease-specific expertise & insufficient use of non-pharma interventions’
‘Treatment plans tend to focus on the disease rather than the individual living with it, and patients are often not involved in clinical decision making’. You’d swear they have spoken to us about how we feel about our care! It is so nice to be heard & listened to.

The only caveat is that they have to spend the next 5-10 years waiting for the research to prove it works
https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😳" title="Flushed face" aria-label="Emoji: Flushed face">. Many don’t have the luxury to wait for the big fat answer that yes it will work & undoubtedly save money. Covid has shown how we can move mountains in healthcare..
Covid has also shown us that lack of investment in community based care, self care & self empowerment leads to an unhealthy populace that is ground to a halt by a bug we cannot see. In this covid it is the older people in the community that our healthcare failed.
What if the next ‘covid’ affects all age groups more severely..will we wait until then to deal with the high level of chronic diseases kills half of us off? Why wait to use the non Pharma tools that we know work - diet and exercise & personalised medicine & integrated care
Why do they keep pouring money into acute settings when they’re shoring up more cost by ignoring empowerment of self care in the community? Why just fund drug trials, why not more non pharma real life research? Healthcare professionals, diet & exercise are a lot cheaper..
I’m not saying we don’t need Pharma, we totally do but at the moment it is the tail wagging the dog..in the case of PD there are so many more elements than just the drugs. And it’s the same for many chronic diseases.
Sorry this was longer than 4 posts and there is so much thought in this paper. I would like to thank @basbloem @MichaelOkun @RayDorseyNeuro @DrEmHenderson et al for writing it #EndingPD
