Simon Sarris ( @simonsarris): a thinker, a creator, a do-er & much more

i compiled 3,000 of Simon's most recent tweets into a list of important points, organized within 4 categories.

categories:
๐Ÿ”ธlife
๐Ÿ”ธbuilding/creating
๐Ÿ”ธfaith
๐Ÿ”ธhome & family

A thread...๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡
โ”who is Simon Sarris?

Simon is a software developer by trade, but his desire to think, build and share doesn't end there. he tweets about many topics including: development๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ, mysticism๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ, building ๐Ÿ—๏ธ, cooking ๐Ÿณ, gardening ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ and more.
after compiling the 3k tweets, i setup formatting within Sheets to highlight words related to the various categories mentioned above. i moved each category into their own sheet and began sorting through tweets that i found to be the most important.ย

my dataset (wip screenshot)
after sorting through tagged tweets, i then sorted through all not-tagged tweets (tweets not covered by the conditional formatting)

i did this manually because my skillset from a dev standpoint is non-existent, but it was important to read the tweets on my own anyway...
each category contains snippets of tweets and/or an over-arching thought related to the tweets (in my words) within that category.

let's start with 'life'
๐Ÿ™‹life

๐Ÿ”ธplan for the future
๐Ÿ”ธbe optimistic about the future
๐Ÿ”ธit's important to do [things], live and flourish
๐Ÿ”ธdon't avoid "doing" because it feels temporary at the time
๐Ÿ”ธcontemplate the value gained vs. cost sunk
๐Ÿ”ธdon't over calculate
๐Ÿ”ธTwitter is the easiest way to publicly think and do and through engaging on Twitter you may find your "people"[/community]
๐Ÿ”ธbe aware of what you stand behind. most causes are not thought out enough to advocate and certainly not enough to scream about
๐Ÿ”ธtolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity is a kind of skill
๐Ÿ”ธthe surest tell that someone knows very little is if they claim to have a solution for everything
๐Ÿ”ธif there is risk & reward, you should think deeply about how to accomplish it
๐Ÿ”ธspend time thinking
๐Ÿ”ธpursue a better version of yourself, your community and the world
๐Ÿ”ธbe weary of material that is labeled for self-help and self-care
๐Ÿ”ธvocalize your ideas. even the feeble ones
๐Ÿ”ธpeople buy and think in stories
๐Ÿ”ธtell better stories
๐Ÿ”ธphilosophy begins in wonder
๐Ÿ”ธplay devil's advocate for long enough and people just see you as the devil
๐Ÿ”ธtaking no risks in the short term is its own risk in the long term
๐Ÿ”ธcultivate levity to give others joy
๐Ÿ”ธdon't over rationalize
๐Ÿ”ธquit politics
๐Ÿ—๏ธbuilding/creating๐Ÿ“

๐Ÿ”ธcreate more things
๐Ÿ”ธbe around people who create things
๐Ÿ”ธchoose not to do or make things things that make life bad
๐Ÿ”ธimprove your world. lay your cobblestone path. the cobblestone path may outlive you
๐Ÿ”ธfocus on craft of some sort
๐Ÿ”ธmaking something, even something simple, and enjoy the ritual
๐Ÿ”ธcreating is also about removing (think photography)
๐Ÿ”ธthere is almost nothing more gratifying than building and improving the world around you
๐Ÿ”ธless "how to" instruction and more instruction through actually doing. collecting knowledge delays applying our hands.

๐Ÿ•‰๏ธreligion

๐Ÿ”ธagain, don't over rationalize
๐Ÿ”ธreligion cannot "explain" the world
๐Ÿ”ธreligion should leave you in wonder
๐Ÿ”ธbecome religious. fill yourself with wonder and stay open to mystery.
๐Ÿ”ธhave faith
๐Ÿ”ธreligion (like philosophy) begins in wonder
๐Ÿกhome & family๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

๐Ÿ”ธhaving kids earlier may eliminate some "freedom", but it also gives you 5 more years of life with kids and grand-kids
๐Ÿ”ธ"children look forward to growing the courage to make meaningful decisions"
๐Ÿ”ธ"i think a lot of parents don't notice when their kids are interested in something, or overly guide them. i want to give my kids enough free-form exploration, materials, and boredom, to discover interests on their own. what i want for my children is a strong internal locus."
๐Ÿ”ธ"home" is foremost the set of rituals you make for yourself and others, in order to dwell poetically in a place
๐Ÿ”ธcreate a home you like to live in
๐Ÿ”ธread this post in order to learn about Simon and Simplicity's process for designing their home: https://twitter.com/simonsarris/status/1217980398770233344
i very much appreciate someone who publishes their thoughts for others to see. when one publishes his thoughts it puts him in a vulnerable place. one that can be judged by others. the above only captures some of Simon Sarris's thoughts. for more, follow๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ @simonsarris
