TRIGGER WARNING!
I am a sexual abuse survivor. I got almost raped when I was 11. Thank God I had the power to run away from my abuser before he could leave a deep scar on my body, just the way he ripped apart my soul and mind.

I was one of the bold kids who had the courage and wit to let my parents know about the cruelty that had happened to me. I trusted with all my heart that all my pain and agony would be magically wiped off by them. But to my shock I was asked to stay quiet.

They said, "Onnum aagala pa... Marandhudu... Enga kita sonadha veliya solidadha." It was that easy for them. They thought trauma has a magical off switch. Well I don& #39;t blame them. This was how their parents dealt abuses too... I don& #39;t blame them either.

Being the sacrificing kid I used to be, I agreed and stayed quiet for a long time. The abuser was an acquaintance and it pricked my heart every single time they smile at me as if nothing had happened. Life was unfair and cruel.

Before I learnt the meaning of & #39;Trauma& #39;, I had began living with it. I didn& #39;t have the courage to utter a word about this to anyone till I became an adult. I was afraid of being judged.. afraid of being seen as a weakling, who got used...

The adult me, luckily got to know that he was not alone and successfully snapped out of the insecurities and trauma. Whenever l came across someone who went through the same path, I held their hands shared my story and told them they aren& #39;t alone.

Coming to the whole point of hashtagging #PonmagalVandhal. Though I have never shied away from identifying myself as a survivor. I never had the push/courage to announce it on a public forum. Adhaan ellarum pesrangale.. namba pesi enna pudhusa aida podhu? Nu oru thought.

#PonmagalVandhal reminded me that & #39;Pesama irundha kandipa edhuvum maara poradhu illa,& #39; and hence the thread.
No this is not the first film to talk about about child abuse. But namba prechai ah namaku therinja mugam... sathama pesradha ketkradhe oru thani nambikai dhaan.

I wouldn& #39;t defend saying that #PonmagalVandhal is the best legal drama out there. Yes the film could& #39;ve been more than what it is... But its pure intent overpowers its flaes. #Jyotika ka and team you deserve all love!

Coming back to my story. The perpetrator who I was talking about was my neighbour, who was just 5 years older than me. Probably 16 something then. As I type this he would be smirking somewhere knowing that he got away clean despite all he had done.

I heard from someone that he& #39;s married now and has a kid. I sincerely pray and wish his child doesn& #39;t go through the hell that I had to live with. Forgiveness is the punishment I give him.

NOTE:
1. I spoke out right after my abuse. Nobody heard me and they thought silencing me was the way to safeguard their dignity.
So I beg all of you to have a listening ear. When a kid opens up to you. Stop whatever you& #39;re doing.. LISTEN! AND ACT!

2. My father is a gazetted officer and my mother is a government employee. My family had all the education it needed to understand what was happening. But they didn& #39;t.
No education doesn& #39;t do the magic. Child abuse is very real and it is happening all around us! Wake up!

3. Boys do get raped. They under go the same trauma and pain as girls. Gender isn& #39;t an exception here. Wake up!
Let the boys be emotional.. let them cry whenever they feel like... Let them share their emotions whenever they want to... They are kids afterall...
