The idea that the chastity of a daughter is a commodity owned by her father has roots in both the late Antique and medieval schools of thought. This is largely because a maiden fetched, as this absolute danger puts it a higher "bride price" as in theory it guarantees paternity.

As a result, to have sex with someone's maiden daughter was to devalue a tradable commodity. Fathers absolutely could sue men who had sex with their daughters over this, though it was a specific civil matter and I am pretty sure summoning old age was not legal payment. Must check

Any who all of this is linked up to our conception of sex as an object that has an attached value and can be conceptualised as a commodity. It is basic as hell.
