Said I would stay off twitter but here's a thing. If you are white/non black DO NOT set the black power fist as your icon.

This is one if those cultural things that genuinely are not for you and while inget you want to show solidarity, the act if a single fist in the air is
Powerful because of the silence forced behind it. The ability to speak out was not a luxury we had, but we had gestures. We had symbols of our brotherhood and our means of standing strong. You who are not silenced, you who can speak on platforms are not meant for it.
Seeing them on nonblack profiles with people praising their performativeness in this time where they should just take a backseat is just comfortable in the least, and I will go ahead and say a mockery of its definition at worst. Stand in solidarity. Put BLM in your names and
Icons and continue to support, but the symbol is for solidarity among the silenced blacks who couldn't raise their voice so they raised a fist. If you dont know the history behind it, please just believe me when I say it's not like raising a flag for awareness.
this is getting out of hand, BUT to add on:

This is about the BLACK power fist. Not any other instances of its use. The BLACK power fist is the focus.
For those asking for a replacement symbol. Nothing is more powerful than your face. if you normally use your face then use it and continue support. it's more powerful for a nonblack person visibly speaking out about it. It says more. OR put symbols of BLM etc as your icon.

in addendum, you don't have to apologize for it or for not knowing. Just please continue to spread the awareness of what is happening to us and understand that I can't tell you how to feel about it, but do understand that there are people like me who are not okay with it. If you
still feel comfortable with it, I won't try to change how you see it or how you feel about it. I'm not here for that and that's not what this is for. This is to make you aware of the people who see it and feel negatively about it and the reasons WHY they feel it.
I"m not here to change perspectives or force you to. Just that you -know- and what displaying this image as someone who is nonblack entails.
Also, as a finality, I'm afraid I have to mute this. It's gotten very big and making me nervous (i have a disorder, my apologies) that I can't respond to all of you because so many. Just keep talking and spreading the awareness of what is happening to black people. Thank you.
