/ The media is currently full of articles that are painting this narrative: China has taken over Hong Kong, HK has lost freedom. This is a deliberate distortion of the facts. Many mainland Chinese are unsympathetic to the HK protests, but they are harassed for this opinion. https://twitter.com/Zishi_Zhang/status/1265244391289085954
/ The media likes to paint the HK "protests" as peaceful, and a call for freedom, democracy and rule of law. While many HK citizen genuinely support those things, the "protests" have long ceased being peaceful, or about freedom/democracy/rule of law.
/ The reactions from western journalists? Disbelief. Accusations that those students are brainwashed. @Zishi_Zhang is being harassed by those journalists. Apparently democracy is only important if you agree with us.
/ Check this comprehensive thread which highlights rioters being up people for *disagreeing* with them. Where is the "peaceful" and "rule of law" part? Where is the "democracy" part if you don't respect counter-opinions? https://twitter.com/DanielDumbrill/status/1166296261672062977
/ The US govt pretends to be supporting the HK people, but in reality they're just using HK as a chess piece. Many HK rioters are funded by NED, a front for the CIA, in order to bring about regime change. See this article for more bg about the situation. https://liberationschool.org/hong-kong-and-china/
/ What's more, all this violence, all these ulterior motives, are barely reported in western media.
/ I've encountered quite a few people who, after telling them about the truth behind the Hong Kong protests, still refuse to believe me, and still insist that the HK protests are about freedom etc.
