$700 Million Deal - Lessons Learned :

This week my group that I work for (Bank) closed a $700 million dollar deal and it took us about 3.5 months.

Here are some things I learned along the way:

RTs appreciated! */THREAD/*
1) Money is EVERYWHERE

There is so much wealth in this world.

If you simply just put yourself in a position where you are hanging around rich people - you will be in a great spot.

You will see what problems they have and how you can offer solution.
2) Relationship Management

It is VITAL that you stay in touch with people and maintain positive relationships with clients.

We closed this one simply because my boss was communicating with the client regularly and in a positive manor.

Keep track of clients/relationships!
3) ATTENTION TO DETAIL

We almost lost a SEVEN HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR DEAL because of a typo!

Seriously!

Especially when you are dealing with legal documents, make sure you are carefully re-reading everything!

If you gloss over things it could have a catastrophic effect.
4) GET A SLICE OF THE PIE

When you work on deals this large, it is impossible to not get paid.

This is why investment bankers make so much $. Because they take a flat fee on MASSIVE transactions.

A company spending $700 million doesn't care if you take a 1% fee (7 mil!)
5) GET A SLICE OF THE PIE cont

You could make $7 million by taking 1% of a $700 million dollar deal or 70% of a $1 million deal 10 times.

Put yourself in a position to be involved with LARGE COMPANIES that have the money to spend -

SOLVE PROBLEMS FOR THESE PEOPLE
6) Understand the market inside and out

You need to show your client why you are the best source for their need.

It doesn't even need to be 100% true

But if you can say "nobody knows x like me because of y"

Then you give your client 1 reason why nobody can beat you.
CONCLUSION:

I hope this thread is informative.

The key point here is to focus on providing value for rich people. Whether it is personal level or to a Company.

Surround yourself with these people.

There is so much money in the world, you just need a slice of the pie!
