*ahem*

i think quinton byfield is okay for a guy born in august playing major minutes as a centre on an okay team who was not wonderful at a tournament for the best guys 2ish years older than him.
furthermore, at that same tournament, the mvp, likely to go 1st this year and is also 0.7726 years older was on the 2019 roster and also didn't look wonderful and was even called out by the coach publicly.

i dunno.
Here's so data on Byfield:

Relative to his team without him on the ice, he gets scored on 27% less. Lafreniere? 6.73% less.

When he's on the ice at even strength, he's scoring ~4.2 goals/60 minutes. Lafreniere? 4.1.
Only four CHL players are getting points on 40% of team offense on average (INV%):

Lafreniere (54.7%)
Rossi (44.9%)
Byfield (44.3%)
Bourque (40.2%)
I'm not done tracking them, but here's some data I've got comparing at 5v5:

Dangerous pass attempts/60
Byfield: 15.7
Lafreniere: 9.38

Controlled offensive transitions/60
Byfield: 56.4
Lafreniere: 50.9

Controlled defensive transitions against/60
Byfield: 14.8
Lafreniere: 24.1
Yeah I'm cherry picking a bit and there are some things you probably want to see more out of Byfield, but um. If you want to let him slide for the perceived mismatch between his size and playing style, by my guest.
