I can't believe all of the people I've seen commenting under #BlackLivesMatter posts saying that "this only encourages racial divide even further" or that "all lives matter" or just straight up justifying #GeorgeFloyd's murder and Police Brutality.
First of all, you'd have to be blind to not recognize the privilege your color of skin gives you in the US. White people don't go about teaching their kids how to talk to police in order to NOT GET KILLED. Black kids get that talk even before they hit puberty.
It is completely crazy to me that you would have to learn how to behave in order to not get murdered. As of being murdered because of your color of skin is YOUR fault.
And there are not enough people talking about this. My friend @alondrasvdpr1 did an Instagram Live on this topic with her friend, you can find it at @hakneefahg's insta, her @ is the same on there.
What can you do? Start conversations. Get involved. Speak up. If you're an ally, you probably have more probability of being heard than black people do, right now. Recognize your privilege and use it for good because it is completely astounding for me...
...that even today, 21st century, so much time after slavery was "abolished", we are still fighting for Civil Rights; that people are dying...no, sorry. That people are BEING MURDERED for Civil Rights and in absence of them.
So really, I don't care how you raise your voice, but do it. Absolutely no one can stay silent about this, because every day, black people are murdered. Every morning, the black community has to get up and bury another brother or sister.
ALSO! Please stop sharing videos of black people getting killed. In this attempt to create awareness, you are actually traumatizing people all over again with these images, especially black people. There are other ways to spread awareness.
SAY THEIR NAMES! #GeorgeFloyd #BlackLivesMatter
