As a convert from atheism to Catholicism, it's both fascinating and strange to start reading @BishopBarron's new Word on Fire edition of the gospels ( https://www.wordonfire.org/bible/ ).

I first opened a bible in a hotel room, briefly, when I hadn't packed enough books for the trip. 1/5
The next time was in college, as part of a Western Civ program, where we talked about motifs in the writing without any consideration it might be true

I think that left me a little averse to study bibles, which reminded me of that seminar and the habit of literary criticism. 2/5
Now, I have a lot of bibles! Without any having quite the sense of long-lasting relationship that I see in my husband's Bible he got for his first Holy Communion.

And, eventually I'll need to figure out what to read to Beatrice from (once she graduates from Tomie dePaola) 3/5
Two things here will help me a lot as I learn how to raise a tiny Catholic. I like the way @BishopBarron's edition includes commentary from the Church Fathers and some more recent authors.

Recently, I've been reading the Catena Aurea and I'm very grateful for the colloquy. 4/5
What a relief to have St. John Chrysostom to field questions for me! And the Via Pulchritudinis pages help preach by beauty to all, but especially to little ones. I'll just have to keep her hands from the pages, lest a displaced hunger for the Eucharist lead her to eat it! 5/5
