dear white people. i am so tired. innocent people are losing their lives solely because of the colour of their skin. this is no longer “police brutality”. this is murder. let’s start calling it what it is. (1/12)
unless you are a poc you will NEVER understand the fear. being taught from a young age to just “survive the arrest”. knowing your whole life that you will probably never have the same rights and freedoms as your yt peers. (2/12)
i will never be able to call the cops without the fear of putting my life in danger. the system was not built for people who look like me. (3/12)
let’s talk about white privilege. from the moment that you are born a white person, you are already a step ahead of me. there is nothing that any of us can do about the colour of our skin. it is not your fault that you are white. (4/12)
it is your fault, however, if you are white and you are ACTIVELY supporting the oppressors. it is not enough to repost social media posts or to just feel bad. (5/12)
i’m begging you to take that privilege and use it for good. this does not mean that you should be the voice for poc. but we need you to amplify our voices, and to STEP IN when you see the oppression. (6/12)
educate your peers. do not stand for injustice. when you sit in silence YOU ARE ACTIVELY SUPPORTING THE OPPRESSOR. standing up is the first step in a long journey to overcoming racism. (7/12)
there is absolutely nothing preventing you from stepping in in a situation where a poc is being harmed. if anything, you are the only person who can step in. again, the colour of you skin grants you this ability. (8/12)
this week it was george floyd. last week it was breonna taylor. SAY THEIR NAMES. do not let them be forgotten. blm is continuous. it is a part of my daily life. it affects me personally. (9/12)
it is not enough to simply repost on social media. in order to see any change, blm needs to be a constant in everyone’s lives, no matter the colour of their skin. it should be an everyday conversation, not just when a tragedy like this blows up on social media. (10/12)
educate yourself. stand up. step in. everybody deserves basic human rights. (11/12)
i am so sick of my people becoming hashtags. (12/12)
also!! we do not need to be sharing the video of #GeorgeFloyd last moments. not only is it very triggering for some, it is also extremely disrespectful. there are better ways of spreading your message
i’ll link below some petitions that you can sign and other things that you can do to support!
